When the pair were married, they both thought of having kids around the same time. "I don't think one of us wanted it any more than the other," said Chris.

Anna would ask Chris what he thought about having kids, and he'd answer that he had been thinking about that, too. The two decided to make their desire come true. However, when Anna got pregnant, their son Jack was born prematurely.

The actress's water broke in the middle of the night in August 2012 when she was seven months pregnant. Chris and Anna rushed to the hospital, and the doctors managed to halt her labor using magnesium. The actress stayed in the hospital. The goal was for her to be admitted for four weeks, but on the seventh day, she went into labor again.

However, Anna was in denial because, for hours, she just told herself that she was experiencing indigestion. "Chris and I were so scared, but when Jack came out, even though he was so tiny, he looked so good to us," she narrated.

Going through this difficult journey is something that can drive partners apart or bring them closer. The actress pointed out that the experience of giving birth to a premature baby made Anna and Chris develop an even deeper connection.

She revealed that fatherhood was a very meaningful and rewarding experience for Chris, calling him a "great dad." Fatherhood made the actor become more serious than he was before. He really had to become an adult. The difficult birth of Jack also had a spiritual effect on Chris.

Chris recalled how he and Anna were scared and felt helpless. "We prayed a lot," he said. The actor also got support from his close friends and family. As much as he felt lost in the darkness, Chris treasured the moments he spent with Jack. "It restored my faith in God, not that it needed to be restored, but it really redefined it," he recalled.

"The baby was so beautiful to us, and I look back at the photos of him, and it must have been jarring for other people to come in and see him, but to us he was so beautiful and perfect," he added. As Jack approached his second birthday, he had become a happy and healthy boy.

Chris described his son as open and without fear, no matter what he faced. "He's such a fighter, he's amazing," added the actor. The actor joked that Jack was so charming that he planned to let his son take care of them when he got old enough.

Still, Jack has faced some challenges due to being born premature. Anna Faris wrote in her 2017 book "Unqualified" that her son's legs have a high tone, which makes him appear stiff and, as a result, walk on his tiptoes a lot. Jack also wears sunglasses and has to put on an eyepatch for 20 minutes a day to strengthen his vision.

Despite these challenges, Anna was glad she was raising her son with a fantastic man. She said her ex-husband was really smart and a loving father who didn't let fame seduce or change him. Now, Chris celebrates all the milestones Jack, who is now 12, hits and shares some of the moments on social media.

When Jack turned 10 in 2022, the actor shared an emotional post on Instagram alongside a picture of a lamb and a sheep. "Happy Birthday to my firstborn, my smart, handsome, kind-hearted, big boy Jack! TEN!!?? WHAAAT!? Double digits!! Hard to believe it's already been ten years!!," he captioned the post.

Chris described Jack as the best son. He called him his buddy, noting that Jack was a big brother, reader, fisherman, scout, mathematician, builder, and imagineer. The proud dad also expressed his deep love for his son.

Father and son have also shown up at baseball games looking adorable. When Chris was asked to throw the first pitch for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023, his son accompanied him.
